150 years Hungarian Meteorological Service

The Hungarian Meteorological Service dedicates all year 2020 to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of its foundation. The jubilee year is marked by several important events: issue of a national stamp and coin, press and science conferences, and dedicated publications.[more]

AME Fotoinverno and Meteovideo 2020

Asociación Meteorológica Española (AME) runs a biennial meteo video competition. The winner of Meteovideo’2020 is El cielo afortunaddo, compiled using some spectacular time lapse videos taken on Tenerife Island, Spain, by Roberto Porto Mata.

ÖGM Margules Prize 2020: Daniel Fenner

Daniel Fenner from the Institute for Ecology, Department of Climatology at the Technical University of Berlin, was selected to receive the Max Margules Prize of the Austrian Society for Meteorology for his paper “Intra and inter ´local climate zone´ variability of air temperature as observed by crowd sourced citizen weather stations in Berlin”. 250 years of meteorological observations in Lithuania

First regular air temperature (instrumental) observations in Lithuania were taken in 1770, a complete air temperature time series is available since 1777. The weather radar station at Vilnius Airport was launched in 1974. The automation of observing stations started in 2003. …[more]
