Ahead of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP27), which is held in Egypt from 7 to 18 November 2022, the newly founded African Meteorological Society (AfMS) has worked in collaboration with the UK’s Royal Meteorological Society to produce a suite of learning resources for their website africanmetsociety.org.

Very rich site maintained as EUMETNET Programme with partners such as EUMETSAT and the MetOffice. Several training modules are translated to languages other than English.

The MetEd Meteorology Education and Training by COMET Programme of UCAR
This is the part of COMET dedicated to modules in meteorology and climate. Some are available in Spanish or French.

EUFAR Education & Training for students on airborne research Training courses of one week duration for research scientists in a very specialised domain.
EUFAR is an integrating research activity of the EU 7th Framework Programme.

DLESE Digital Library for Earth System Education
Supported by NSF, DLESE is operated by NCAR. It provides material in electronic form for both teachers and learners: collections of educational resources, data sets and imagery, support services and communication networks. The site is characterised by an excellent ergonomy and by its efforts to guide the visitor step by step to an understanding of the available resources.

The GLOBE project Hands-on school-based science and education programme
“Worldwide Education Programme” for primary and secondary schools. Its aim is to bring together scientists, teachers and students in educational activities based on the analysis of actual observations of the environment gathered by the students themselves.
It is a US interagency programme implemented through a cooperation agreement between NASA and UCAR.
Some material on the web site is available in languages other than English. There are regional and national correspondents all over the world.

Met Office Educational Site
Professionally made, public oriented, userfriendly. Educational material for kids, teenagers and teachers fitting the UK curriculum. Plus in-depth articles about all elements of weather forecastings systems days to decades ahead.

Sustain.no Environmental Education Network
A Norwegian based program, similar to GLOBE in concept. It is specifically oriented towards environmental protection. For instance, about weather and climate the emphasis is on how to behave to limit one’s own CO2 emissions. Data and results are exchanged through the web site. Available in several languages.

Goddard space flight center education programs
There is broad spectrum of materials both for teachers and students (kids) of all grades at this site. Moreover, they offer various educational programs including internship opportunities designed to provide students with experiences that prepare them for careers in line with NASA Goddard and its industry and university partners requirements.

NASA The Planetary Atmospheres Data Node
This is a portal listing a number of sites providing information and material about the planets (including Earth). A starting point to find beautiful pictures from space.

ESRI Virtual campus: GIS education and training
ESRI is a commercial company specialising in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software and applications. They offer a comprehensive training programme, some of it free of charge.

Hurricanes: Science and Society (HSS)
The HSS website, launched by the University of RhodeIsland/Graduate School of Oceanography, provides information on the science of hurricanes, methods of observing hurricanes, modeling and forecasting of hurricanes, how hurricanes impact society, and how people and communities can prepare for and mitigate the impacts of hurricanes. It is targeted at educators, students, and the general public.

PhET – Interactive Simulations
Interactive simulations for Sceience and Math, collection of interactive simulations for spread of phenomena and basics of natural sciences, including Earth Science.

Very well done and comprehensive. It also provides,access to observation data of the Met Office archives.

AMS Education Information and projects
Another very rich site acting as a portal for other institutions but also offering material on their own. Educational kits for teachers, pre-college and undergraduate programmes.

AMS Glossary of meteorology
The glossary contains more than 12000 definitions of meteorological terms.

Superbly made and designed for easy use. Unfortunately, there is very little about climate or meteorology.

Bildungsserver Resources on all aspects of education
This site is maintained by the German National Institute for Research in Pedagogy. It contains an enormous amount of information, mainly about policy, organisation and practices in education. It also acts as a portal for access to many other sources on educational reserach and practices worldwide.

Science in schools

Science in school: Highlighting the best science teaching and research
This is an on-line quarterly journal supported by a consortium of seven large European scientific organisations. It acts as a sort of portal for the best initiatives for education in science in Europe. Many languages cohabit on the site. The access is free.

Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant (in German)
An education programme by the association of climate ambassodors in Germany. The programme includes workshops on weather and climate, with hands-on research projects. The themes and concepts of the workshops are developed to tie in with school curricula of the relevant subjects.

Many pages explaining the Earth climate and climate change. The target is the general public. The articles are well written and illustrated. The organisation of the site is not very clear, in addition to English there is Spanish version available as well.
