The Environmental Forecasts Team is part of the Evaluation Section of the Forecast Department. The Team Leader is responsible for leading and managing the activities of the team, including the day-to-day running of the team’s function and the provision of relevant information to support decision-making in other parts of the organisation.
The Team Leader has to provide expertise for the ongoing development of ECMWF’s environmental application activities, including EFAS, and innovation for the planning of future systems and services within this area.

ECMWF has long recognised the value of high-quality forecasts in mitigating the effects of natural disasters.
Recognising that floods are among the costliest natural disasters in Europe, the European Commission instigated the development of the European Flood Awareness System (EFAS) at its Joint Research Centre (JRC). The focus of the position is on the development of the hydrological model used in EFAS and GloFAS. Currently EFAS uses the gridded LISFLOOD Rainfall-Runoff model for the European domain.
