The Institute for Geophysics & Meteorology (IGMK) of University of Cologne, Germany, invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Energy Meteorology (W1), with tenure track (W2).
Your Tasks
- Represent the field of energy meteorology within the Department of Geosciences and contribute to research, teaching and academic administration of the Faculty
- Involvement in the Hans-Ertel-Centre for Weather Research (HErZ) with the German Weather Service (DWD) and the Center for Earth System Observations and Computational Analysis (CESOC)
- Collaboration with the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences regarding the integration of meteorological impact in advanced energy models like grid models or energy market models
- Possible joining the Institute of Energy Economics (EWI) on a part-time basis
- Teaching connected to the research field of energy meteorology in addition to basic meteorological modules
Your Profile
- Highly motivated candidate with a background in meteorology, physics or similar disciplines
- Experience in basic or applied research related to highly variable renewable energy sources, i.e., solar and wind energy
- Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, forecasting of renewable energies on various scales, characterizing variability in a changing climate, extreme events
- Use of state-of-the-art observations and/or complex modelling in connection with high-performance computing is advantageous
- Very good academic track record for the career stage and (inter-) national recognition
- Interest in interdisciplinary research is expected and first experience in acquiring funding and teaching is desirable
