Purpose & objectives:
Estonian Meteorological Society (EstMS) is a section of Estonian Naturalists´ Society, founded already in 1853. The goal of the Estonian Naturalists’ Society (ENS) is to bring together professional and amateur scientists, and people interested in nature, with the purpose of aiding the study of Estonian nature, furthering environmental preservation and education in Estonia, and popularising results of scientific research.
The Society’s network of trustees all over Estonia allows conducting observations and the application of collected data in scientific research. The majority of the Society’s activities take place in sections and committees. ENS belongs to the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
To promote meteorology and related sciences, and also to advance meteorological education and culture, the Estonian Meteorological Society was established on 23rd March 2018. EstMS unites professional meteorologists, scientists and hobby meteorologists. The EstMS primary work formats are organising conferences, seminars and discussions, tours and nature observations. One direction of the society is to join the thunderstorm and severe weather watchers as Estonian Thunderstorm Observers Network belongs to the EstMS. The Society has a council of terminology to unify and develop Estonian-language terminology in meteorological and climatological sciences; it also devotes much attention to education and popularising science.
