Dear readers,
The EMS Annual Meeting in Barcelona lies behind us, an inspiring event with a record attendance of more than 1000 people, that marked 25 years EMS - and the activities of the organisation are gaining momentum with the new initiatives and projects over the last two years: the long-awaited journal of the EMS (JEMS), the webinar series, ...You can still browse the EMS@25 & Welcome video, worth watching from start to end.
We are delighted to announce that the JEMS first papers are out and two special issues are in preparation.
The next round of calls for prestigious awards is opening, and we already have some deadlines approaching, the first one to submit short proposals for the EMS Technology Achievement Award 2025. Find details also about the S. Zilitinkevich Memorial Award and the Harry Otten Prize 2025 in the highlights below.
The EMS General Assembly has decided that the EMS Webinar Series should continue, and the first events have been lined up: 22 January: Round table on EMS@25 19 March: EMS pledge & transition to Net Zero (tbc) 21 May: Croatian meteorology in philately Links to the events will become available early in 2025, keep checking the EMS Home page.
The next conferences are also announced: the ECSS2025 - European Conference on Severe Storms in Utrecht, the D·A·CH 2025 Conference in Bern, the ICUC12 - International Conference on Urban Climate in Rotterdam, the MeteoXchange online conference for young scientists. For some of these also EMS Conference awards are available. Find more events at the conference calendar.
Last not least, the EMS was happy to welcome two new Member organisations this year: the Norwegian Geophysical Society joined the EMS as the 38th Member Society, and Campbell Scientific Limited (UK) is now an EMS Associate Member.
