The Catalan Meteorological Society announces the winner of the Eduard Fontserè Award 2017

The Catalan Meteorological Society (ACAM) has selected the paper “SPREAD: a high-resolution daily gridded precipitation dataset for Spain – an extreme events frequency and intensity overview” by Roberto Serrano-Notivoli, Santiago Beguería, Miguel Ángel Saz, Luis Alberto Longares, and Martín de Luis, published in the journal Earth System Science Data, for the International Award for meteorology and climatology Eduard Fontserè 2017.

The committee considers that this paper presents relevant contributions to the knowledge of the Mediterranean meteorology and climatology. Authors show the first daily database of precipitation with a very high spatial and temporal resolution over Spain since 1950. The methodology used could become a reference and may be applied for similar analyses in areas along the Mediterranean basin. This method and the database will allow to improve the knowledge of the daily precipitation over the Mediterranean basin.

The prize will be presented to Roberto Serrano-Notivoli and his colleagues during the XXIII Symposium of Meteorology Eduard Fontserè, on 24 and 26 November 2017 in Barcelona.

XXIII Symposium of Meteorology Eduard Fontserè, 24 – 26 November 2017 in Barcelona.

The programme will cover three main topics:

  • Climatology of the Mediterranean
  • Applications, analyses and studies
  • Meteorological impacts for society
