Mário Pereira
Mário Jorge Modesto Gonzalez Pereira is representing the Associação Portuguesa de Meteorologia e Geofísica, Portugal (APMG) on the EMS Council from September 2025 to September 2028.
Mário holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Geophysical Sciences (Meteorology) and a PhD in Physics (Meteorology) from the University of Lisbon. He is an Associate Professor at University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), an Integrated Member of the Centre for Research and Technology in Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB), Inov4Agro Associate Laboratory at UTAD, and a collaborator researcher at the D. Luiz Institute (IDL), Associate Laboratory. He is also Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Meteorology and Geophysics (Associação Portuguesa de Meteorologia e Geofísica, APMG). Mário is a geoscientist specialised in meteorology and climatology, with a primary interest in weather, climate, climate variability, extreme events, climate change and its impacts on human and natural systems, wildfires, water resources, and agroforestry species.

Miguel graduated in Meteorology, Oceanography and Geophysics through the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, with a PhD in Earth and Space Sciences, specialization in Atmospheric and Climate Physics by the University of Évora has been focused in the last years in the study of the interface between the inland water bodies and the atmosphere as well as the satellite and ground-based remote sensing of the water surface. Trying also, to improve the knowledge of energy and mass fluxes between large reservoirs and the atmosphere and understand the impact in the surrounding atmospheric environment. Currently is an Assistant Researcher in the University of Évora, integrated member of the Center for sci-tech Research in EArth sysTem and Energy (CREATE) and Secretary General of the Portuguese Association of Meteorology and Geophysics (APMG).
