Laura Zubiate joined Met Éireann, the Irish meteorological service, as a postdoctoral researcher in October 2017. Her current project, Windsurfer, is a European project that aims at assessing current and future risks of extreme wind and wave events for the reinsurance, offshore energy and forestry sectors. She completed her PhD in UCD on the influence of large-scale atmospheric patterns such as the NAO on winter wind energy resources in Ireland.
Originally from the Basque Country in Spain, she worked in marine renewables research and obtained a MSc in coastal management and engineering before moving to Dublin.
Laura was a member of the EMS Liaison Committee 2018-2019.
