Daniel do Couto Vilão

Daniel do Couto Vilão is a former Air Force (FAP) military service member in the field of Aeronautical Meteorology, with experience in Climate Change roles at Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). He is currently employed at the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), once again performing functions in Aeronautical Meteorology.

He had the privilege of transitioning to a professional role in Aeronautical Meteorology in 2013 (Portuguese Air Force (FAP), in which he served for nearly 8 years as an Aeronautical Meteorological Observer, having received training at Ota Air Base and served at Montijo and Alverca Air Bases). Between 2021 and 2023, he worked on Climate Change issues at the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). In November 2023, he joined the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), where he is once again serving as an Aeronautical Meteorological Observer. He also participated in Climate Action Plans and Municipal Plans for Adaptation to Climate Change for several Portuguese municipalities as a member of the BestWeather technical team.

He is currently studying for his PhD in Applied Physical Sciences, focusing his research on the Urban Heat Island effect. His main interests are Meteorology, Urban Climate, and Climate Change.
