Technical coordinator for measuring instruments of atmosphere

This position (TV-L EG 10, 100%) is to be filled at the Institute of Environmental Physics for an unlimited period as soon as possible.
Heidelberg University is looking for an enthusiastic technician who is interested in supporting fundamental research on weather tailored to the needs for scientific discoveries. The successful candidate will be part of the new ALIC2E research team led by Prof. Stephanie Fiedler, and support several exciting research and transfer projects on weather and climate. Through your technical expertise, you will contribute to building and maintaining knowledge of measurement technology in the team that help to improve our understanding in environmental physics.
Your role will be the execution of instrument acquisition, development of network connections and ancillary equipment, maintenance and installation of meteorological instruments for measurements at land and on board of research ships. The work will include the preparation of instruments in terms of technical setups, test of measurements at the institute, organisation of transports, coordination of logistics and may include installation of instruments for campaigns with national or international travel. You will be responsible to technically support younger students and research staff of the team for all technical aspects of the instruments.
Your tasks:
- You will be responsible for preparing and performing measurements with our instruments for field campaigns, including traveling for up to one month per year within and outside of Germany
- You will acquire the necessary skills for our meteorological instruments with focus on the technical aspects for their installation, maintenance and monitoring of measurements.
- You will be responsible for the technical documentation, maintenance and logistics of the instruments
- You will prepare and coordinate the acquisition, delivery, repairs, and logistics for the instruments
- You will contribute your technical understanding to scientific publications and presentations of findings at international scientific conferences
- You will co-create and perform the collection of new measurement data in atmospheric physics from the technical perspective
- You will lead the management and documentation of the measurement data, work with partners in our scientific ream for the development and evaluation, and collaborate with others for data evaluation
- You will coordinate the communication for the refurbishment of the laboratories of the ALIC2E team
- You will acquire the technical expertise for the meteorological instruments of ALIC2E
- You will support small teaching projects for bachelor and master students
Your profile:
- You hold a good to very good academic degree in physics, engineering, meteorology or a closely related field and have an interest in atmospheric observations. Alternatively, you have comparable skills and experience
- You have very good knowledge of electrical equipment, technical knowledge for networks, basic knowledge of data analysis (python, shell scripts, FORTRAN and/or comparable), preferably for different data formats (e. g., netCDF, ASCII)
- You have first experience in scientific research practices of the field, e.g., obtained through university courses (e. g., remote sensing) and/or a thesis in environmental physics
- You have achieved very good results in education and training
- You are enthusiastic and enjoy working both in a team and on your own, and you want to further develop your skills in the sense of lifelong learning
- You have good oral and written German and English skills and the willingness for inter-/national travel
- You have a German driving license class B or equivalent

The position is not divisible due to the requirements of deliverables according to project plans.
