San José State University, San José, CA, USA
Closing date not provided
The Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center and Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at San José State University is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position available starting 1 May 2026.
Radar Meteorology / Pyrocumulonimbus Dynamics
They are seeking a radar meteorologist with experience in deploying mobile radar platforms. This position is part of the NASA INSPYRE field campaign with the goal of improving understanding of pyroCu/Cb dynamics using ground-based radars and lidars. The candidate will be responsible for leading field deployments of WIRC’s Ka and X band Doppler radars and a G-band radar to active wildfires. The candidate will lead analyses of radar data for answering key questions on pyroCu/Cb dynamics including fire-induced winds, plume hydro/pyrometeor size distributions and characterizations from dual frequency ratios and polarimetric observations to isolate hydro- and pyro-meteor distributions within the plume and cloud.
The candidate will be required to become fire-line qualified and pass an off-road drivers safety course. The post-doctoral position is available for up to two years based on satisfactory performance in the first year.
