PhD position – Tropical CH4 wetlands emission modelling

The Carbon Cycle Data Assimilation and Inverse Modelling group at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science has an openings for PhD students with a strong background in Physical Geography and Ecosystems Analysis, Atmospheric sciences, Environmental Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.

The PhD project is embedded in IM4CA EU research project, that aims to to establish the scientific fundament needed to understand and mitigate the climate forcing of methane by delivering knowledge and data on the regional and global sources and sinks of atmospheric methane. The PhD student will gain research experience in state-of-the-art ecosystem modelling (LPJ-GUESS), model optimisation, and presenting and publishing the results.

This is a 4 year fully-funded PhD position at Lund University, Sweden with a preferred start in Sept/Oct 2025. The PhD student will be supervised by Marko Scholze and Paul Miller (both Dept. of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science) and be able to work in an international team with world-leading scientists.
