Postdoctoral Research Associate in European operational monitoring and verification of fossil fuel CO2 emissions
University of Edinburgh, UK
Closing date: 12 April 2021
The University of Edinburgh wishes to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop specific components of an observation-led monitoring and verification system to estimate European fossil fuel carbon dioxide emissions (ffCO2) using in situ and remotely sensed measurements of CO2 and co-emitted tracers. This appointment is part of the H2020 project CoCO2 (IBA-SPACE-CHE2-2019) that includes 25 partner institutes across Europe.
The University of Edinburgh is co-leading a WP within CoCO2 and contributing to two others. The work at Edinburgh will be in collaboration with colleagues associated with these three WPs.
At the University of Edinburgh, you will join a group of researchers that study various aspects of Earth’s atmospheric composition. Group website: http://www.palmergroup.org.
You will be a highly qualified and self-motivated individual who will be able to help refine the underlying research questions, to develop tools to address those questions, and to deliver key scientific deliverables. You will also be expected to present your results to the broader CoCO2 consortium and to the broader scientific community.
You will have experience in developing and applying a global 3-D chemistry transport model, interpreting remotely sensed data, and Bayesian inversion methods. Knowledge of FORTRAN and Python computer languages are essential.
