For Early Career Scientists: 2-Year STEP UP! Fellowship

Applications are invited for the STEP UP! Fellowship, a two-year program aimed at early career scientists, with the opportunity to pursue a PhD after three years. This fellowship is a collaborative initiative between the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and the Center for Earth System Observation and Computational analysis (CESOC). The fellowship will be based in Bonn, Germany.
Fellowship Overview:
The STEP UP! Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for young researchers to engage in innovative projects that are crucial for advancing weather prediction and climate science. Candidates are nationals of ECMWF Member States, Co-operating States, or EU Member States and possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, earth sciences, or a related field.

- Generative Machine Learning (ML)
- Investigate GNSS-R observation usage over land surface
- Discerning the Effect of the Land Data Assimilation System (LDAS) on Flood Forecasting:
- Using Observations to Improve Cloud and Precipitation Processes for Numerical Weather Prediction
