GeoSphere Austria is the national geological, geophysical, climatological, and meteorological
service in Austria with more than 150 years of expertise and experience combined with the latest research findings, always prioritizing people’s needs. With more than 500 experts, they are the trusted knowledge partner on topics such as weather, climate change, resource security, geology, the environment, natural hazards, and groundwater.

In this full-time position, you will lead the Meteorology and Regional Offices division, currently comprising approximately 170 employees across GeoSphere Austria locations in Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Klagenfurt, Graz, and the Sonnblick Observatory.

Your profile:

  • You are a proven leader with strong operational skills, capable of managing a complex, multi-site division.
  • Leadership experience, service orientation, commitment to performance, goal orientated focus, a high degree of teamwork, and resilience are second nature to you.
  • You possess excellent judgment, agile problem-solving abilities, and effective decision-making skills.
  • You hold a university degree with a focus on meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or a related field.
  • You have a solid understanding of the core activities of GeoSphere Austria in the areas of weather, climate, and environmental meteorology and a strong interest in applied geosciences.
  • You possess the ability to transform the latest scientific and technological developments into l products and services, ensuring the reliable operation and continuous improvement of complex, robust and secure operational processes.
  • You have the credibility to implement these activities authenticity and with empathy Negotiations at the national and international levels (with organizations, governments, partners, and stakeholders) in both German and English are second nature to you.
  • You are passionate about fostering an inclusive and positive work environment, motivating staff and ensuring respect to diverse opinions and cultures.
