3 PhD positions in Atmospheric Physics – Understanding Arctic Amplification

Alfred Wegener Institute in Potsdam, Germany
Closing date: 7 March 2024

The section Physics of the Atmosphere at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Potsdam, Germany, invites applications for 3 PhD positions funded within the Transregional Collaborative Research Center TR172 on “ArctiC Amplification: Climate Relevant Atmospheric and SurfaCe Processes, and Feedback Mechanisms (AC)³” (www.ac3-tr.de) by the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).

Within the TR172, AWI together with the collaboration partners (Universities of Leipzig, Cologne and Bremen, TROPOS) aim to better observe, understand, and simulate processes leading to the current drastic climate changes in the Arctic.

Specifically, the titles of the three PhD projects at AWI are:

  • “Influence of large-scale circulation types on processes in the air column in Ny-Alesund” (Reference number: 24/13/D/Kli-b)
  • “Large-scale dynamical mechanisms of Arctic-midlatitude linkages” (Reference number: 24/14/D/Kli-b)
  • “Impact of improved atmospheric boundary layer parametrizations on Arctic climate simulations” (Reference number: 24/15/D/Kli-b)

Please find more details about each project at https://www.awi.de/en/work-study/jobs/job-offer.html

The positions will start as soon as possible, the targeted starting date is 16 April 2024 and it is limited to 3 years.
