2 PostDoc positions in Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring (m/f/d)
Max-Planck-Institut für Biogeochemie (MPI-BGC), Jena, Germany
Closing date: 5 April 2023
The MPI-BGC is looking for candidates for two PostDoc (m/f/d) positions in the framework of the German national integrated greenhouse gas monitoring project (ITMS).
The quantification of anthropogenic as well as biogenic greenhouse gas emissions from atmospheric observation data with the help of inverse modelling is the focus of the project carried out in the research group of Dr. habil. C. Gerbig at the MPI-BGC. The inversion system CarboScope-Regional, which combines a Lagrangian regional atmospheric transport model (STILT, Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport), a global transport model, and an iterative optimization algorithm, is used to estimate the spatio-temporal distribution of sources and sinks from atmospheric measurements of CO2 and CH4 and from a priori information on flux distribution, and serves as a prototype for testing further developments. In this context, methods are to be developed for the simultaneous use of additional atmospheric trace gases, which are emitted together with greenhouse gases (such as NO2 or CO), or which can help characterizing mixing processes (e.g. radon).
