Purpose & objectives
The AME is a national, non-profit scientific association dedicated to promoting the advancement of meteorology and climatology, as well as related environmental disciplines, in Spain. The AME seeks to foster understanding and interest for weather, climate and the environment among researchers, practitioners, enthusiasts, students, teachers or general public, supporting the development of high-quality science, education and outreach activities.
Main activities & highlights
- AME organizes an annual conference in alternative years with APMG, Portugal, and also increasingly with Latin-American societies.
- AME publishes Tiempo y Clima the quarterly bulletin of the society.
- AME organizes periodically webinars on scientific topics, book presentations, interviews with amateurs.
- AME organizes courses and workshops for amateurs.
- AME convenes quarterly and annual photo and video competitions
- The Federation of Latin American and Iberian Meteorological Societies (FLISMET)
- Interview of the month: Spanish Meteorological Association (2018)
Special event 2024
On 21 November 2024 the Spanish Meteorological Society held a celebration to mark 60 years since its foundation. The event was held at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Madrid.
