Living with the Elements: Weather, Climate, and Human Health
A workshop with High-level Speakers
As extreme weather events become more frequent and intense, understanding the intricate links between climate, weather, and public health is vital. The hybrid workshop “Living with the Elements: Weather, Climate, and Human Health” brings together global experts, researchers, operational meteorologists, public health professionals, and communicators to explore innovative solutions, early warning systems, and science-informed strategies for building resilient communities.
Through interactive discussions, case studies, and keynote insights, this full-day workshop highlights how cutting-edge atmospheric science, AI, and epidemiological modelling can be translated into actionable public health policies and effective communication strategies.
The workshop format is hybrid.
Key Themes
- Observatories & Data Infrastructure: Explore state-of-the-art platforms, including the European Climate and Health Observatory and Copernicus Health Hub capabilities, bridging environmental data with the health community.
- Operational Early Warning Systems: Discover heat-health warning systems (HHWS) and epidemiological models designed to mitigate heat exposure, track global heat stress, and protect vulnerable populations.
- Environmental Health Dynamics: Delve into pressing health issues, from the impacts of air pollution and heat stress on hospital admissions to weather-driven patterns in infectious diseases and drought vulnerabilities.
- Health Equity & Environmental Justice: Examine the disproportionate impacts of climate hazards across socio-economic groups and learn about creative science outreach initiatives.
- Bridging Science and Actionable Communication: Learn how AI, urban heat downscaling, and public health frameworks empower decision-makers and communities to effectively adapt to a changing climate.
