The first papers of Volume 2 of the Journal of the of the European Meteorological Society (JEMS) have been published:
- The Land Surface Interactions with the Atmosphere over the Iberian Semi-Arid Environment (LIAISE) field campaign, A. Boone, J. Bellvert, M. Best et al, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jemets.2025.100007
- Recent changes in summer rainfall characteristics in Korea, C.-H. Ho, H.-A. Kim, Y. Cha et al, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jemets.2025.100009
The paper on ‘Recent changes in summer rainfall characteristics in Korea’ by Chang-Hoi Ho et al. investigates variations in summer rainfall characteristics in Korea. The study casts new light on aspects specific to the Korean peninsula. Important in the context of climate change discussions are the observed changes in summer rainfall when comparing periods before the year 2000 and after 2000. - The social and economic benefits of EPS-Aeolus and EPS-Sterna, R.A. Varley, A. Ratier, P. Counet and P. Ruti,
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jemets.2025.100008
The paper entitled ‘The social and economic benefits of EPS-Aeolus and EPS-Sterna’ just appeared in JEMS and demonstrates the socio-economic benefits of an operational doppler-wind lidar and a new constellation of microwave satellites. In summary, the applications of the new data yield substantial savings for societies. Furthermore, it will enhance Europe’s contribution to the realisation of World Meteorological Organization’s Vision 2040.
