1. On teaching the transformation of our energy system by Sven Linow (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences)

The paper deals with the question how we educate young generations to prepare for the energy system transition. Many disciplines contribute to this transformation. This essay provides a short overview of major qualities that a best case future energy system might have. It becomes apparent that a more interdisciplinary approach to teaching/learning will be needed to provide young people with all the necessary skills to participate and enable the transformation from today’s unsustainable and endangering fossil system to this future.

2. Open questions in atmospheric turbulence: A synthesis from the centenary workshop “100 years of turbulence: Innsbruck 1922 -2022” by lead author Ivana Stiperski

This paper summarizes main findings, discussion points, and community recommendations resulting from the workshop “100 Years of Turbulence: Innsbruck 1922 –2022”. Participants from worldide discussed the achievements and major remaining challenges related to atmospheric turbulence over complex surfaces (inhomogeneous terrain, impact of orography, and large roughness elements such as trees or buildings), as well as stratified and non-stationary turbulence. Directions for future research were proposed for these contexts, with goal to advance and improve numerical weather and climate models.
