International School on Satellite Meteorology (ISSM) 2026
The Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISAC) and the University of Naples Parthenope, with the technical support from Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) are delighted to announce the 3rd International School on Satellite Meteorology (ISSM). The school will take place on 31 Aug – 4 Sep 2026 to Lipari, Aeolian Islands (Sicily) – Italy.
TRAINING PROGRAM – Frontal lectures and labs will train attendees on the theory of radiative transfer from visible to microwave radiation, remote sensing methods for detecting precipitation and atmospheric constituents and the satellite image interpretation. New topics of the edition 2026 will cover the physics of ice hydrometeors, the new frontiers open by the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) and EartCARE mission, the evaluation of the impacts of extreme weather on the cultural and natural heritage (CNH), the sensor technologies of small satellites (CubeSat) and the exploration of the atmosphere through the promising future ESA’s missions. In this edition of ISSM’s school a special section will be focused on the sensor technologies equipping meteorological satellites.
EXTRA LAB – CAPTURE YOUR PERFECT STORM – “Capture your perfect storm” is a short course on practical photography conceived to handle the main techniques to capture by lens the wonder of severe storms and lightning fugacity.
