International Atmospheric River Conference 2026

The 6th International Atmospheric Rivers Conference (IARC26) will take place 19–23 October 2026 at the Alfândega Congress Centre in Porto, Portugal. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, IARC26 will be held for the first time in Europe and will convene an international, interdisciplinary community to explore the role of atmospheric rivers (ARs) in shaping water availability, weather extremes, and environmental resilience.

The organisers welcome abstracts on the following key themes, among others:

• Physical, dynamic, and microphysical aspects of ARs
• Aerosol and biogeochemical aspects of ARs
• Observing, identifying, and monitoring of ARs
• Forecasting of ARs from short to seasonal time scales
• Regional aspects and global signatures of ARs
• ARs in past, present, and future climates
• Role of ARs in the changing cryosphere
• Impacts of ARs on the environment and society, including in the context of compound events
• ARs and water extremes: from drought to flood & water management
• ARs and the Ocean: from physical drivers to biodiversity impacts
