Abstract
Science is not only a multicultural effort but also multi-generational! It relies on the distribution and communication of knowledge. However, as scientists we tend to talk a lot about our research and less about the so-called ‘soft skills’, e.g. how to give an inspiring presentation, how to work effectively in a team or how to prepare best for the next conference.
In this session of the EMS webinar series we will hear the secret advice of four panellists. What would they have liked to know a few years ago, before attending their first ever conference? Or what did they just learn recently, that enhanced their work, attitude or visibility in the science world? There will be a short discussion amongst the panellists, followed by a Q&A session for questions from the audience.
The webinar is mainly intended to help early career scientists preparing for their first conference. But it can also be a recap for experienced scientists and a platform to share helpful insights and experiences.
Confirmed panellists so far:
- Carlos Román Cascón, Lecturer (Profesor Contratado Doctor) Universidad de Cádiz – INMAR, Departamento de Física Aplicada. Puerto Real, Spain: Physical Oceanography research group.
- Bianca Mezzina, currently Scientist in Earth System Predictability Section, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts
- Filip Assumpção-Bukowski, MetEireann – see also his post on Communication events 2025
- … more panellists are currently invited.
