The EMS Annual Meetings have developed into a forum of exchange for the meteorological community in Europe over the past quarter of a century. Building on this success, the conference this year will run under the highly topical theme “Growing use of AI/ML in atmospheric sciences and meteorological applications – with a particular focus on flooding and warnings”.

The EMS Annual Meeting brings together people from all over Europe and beyond. University members meet people from the operational weather services, early career scientists meet experienced scientists across various fields in meteorological and climate science. Poster sessions and coffee breaks foster direct exchange, while the topic sessions give an intense overview of the state of the art and provide a basis for discussion and new collaborations in the aftermath of the conference. More than one third of each year’s participants are attending the EMS Annual Meeting for the first time. How does it feel to participate for the first time? And, in contrast, how do long-time attendees such as an experienced session convenor or the a poster award committee member prepare for the Annual Meeting? And how is it to organize, work and assist during the conference? In this webinar, we will bring all of them together in a panel discussion to hear of the experiences and recommendations from every point of view. We are proud to have the following panellists on the online stage:

  • Marie Doutriaux-Boucher, Scientist at EUMETSAT
    chair poster award committee
  • Stephy Libera, PostDoc at Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium
2024 first time attendee & recipient of Young Scientist Conference Award
  • Eric Peinó , Researcher at University of Barcelona, Spain
    conference assistant at EMS2024
  • Marc Prohom, Scientist at Meteorological Service of Catalonia, Spain
    local host EMS2024
  • Shira Raveh-Rubin, Associate Professor at Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel
    convenor at EMS2025, EMS2024, EMS2023

The panel discussion will be moderated by Julia Thomas, scientist at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research Troposphere Research (IMKTRO).
