Abstract

Achieving net zero emissions is a critical global challenge, and the meteorological community plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific understanding, informing policy, and driving sustainable solutions. In 2024, the European Meteorological Society (EMS) made a pledge to become net zero by 2040.

In this webinar, Prof Liz Bentley, the EMS President, will explore the EMS’s commitment to the net zero transition, highlighting key strategies, challenges, and opportunities. The session will discuss the role of meteorological research in climate mitigation, adaptation, and decision-making, as well as initiatives within EMS to reduce its own carbon footprint. Attendees will gain insights into how meteorologists, institutions, and stakeholders can contribute to a net zero future, fostering collaboration and innovation across the European meteorological landscape.
