Windy.com is an all-in-one weather app for those who make crucial weather-related decisions. The app provides in-depth weather insights for the whole world.
The Award will be presented to the Windy team at the Awards Session during the EMS Annual Meeting 2026 in Utrecht.
Windy.com stands out in the meteorological sector for transforming complex weather data into easily understandable formats. It is a well-known weather app, also being used outside the meteorological community. The app is very attractive, intuitive and professional which makes it possible to visualize a variety of meteorological parameters. It adds value to active people in many sports, whereas it also offers specific and adapted visualization for individual needs.
The app is available in a free version, which is already very comprehensive, and a paid version recommended for access to higher-temporal-resolution models and a larger archive, including a 15-day forecast, more frequent model updates, a 1-hour time step, a 365-day archive of satellite and radar imagery, and advanced Route Planner and Wave and Tides forecasts.
Windy is available on mobile, desktop, and smartwatch (including a Garmin version) platforms. It loads very quickly, and its updated user interface is visually appealing.
Windy.com added many enhancements in recent years, reflecting an active year of growth and improvements. Some of the features are:
- Release of major app versions (41 to 49) all brought enhanced usability; version 50 is currently under development.
- Redesigned User Interface across desktop, mobile, and smartwatch platforms
- Global Expansion of Localized Radars
- Radar data can now be displayed directly within the satellite layer
- Expanded range of models with the addition of localized models such as Japan’s MSM, Australia’s ACCESS-C, and France’s AROME.
- Integration of Satellite Images from the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG)
- Windy Weather Academy! New tutorials on a YouTube playlist
- New alerts for approaching convective storms and heavy precipitation
- Plugins provide additional information, such as buoy measurements, light pollution, day position, and more.
- Number of Webcams for quick on-the-ground weather checks increased to around 70,000.
