EMS Awards 2018

The EMS Awards Programme is mainly designed to recognise important achievements in the careers of meteorologists through the EMS Silver Medal and Media Awards, to acknowledge excellence in young scientists through the Young Scientist Award and to provide travel support for young scientists in the early stage of their career.

Young Scientist Travel Awards are awarded to support participation of outstanding students and young scientists at EMS-co-sponsored conferences. The award is given as travel expenses support. Grants for the following events are now open:

• MountainMet, 25–29 June 2018, Santa Fe, USA: deadline 18 February 2018
• EMS Annual Meeting, 3-7 September 2018, Budapest: deadline 7 March 2018
• European Conference on Radar in Meteorology and Hydrology, 1-6 July 2018, Utrecht: deadline 1 April 2018
• Nordic Meteorologists’ Meeting (NMM), 18-20 June 2018, Reykjavík: deadline 14 April 2018
• EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference, 17-21 September 2018, Talinn, Estonia: deadline 27 May 2018
• ECMWF Annual Seminar, 10-13 Sep 2018, Reading: deadline 13 June 2018

In addition the Tromp Foundation funds travel grants for participation at the EMS2018 in Budapest:

• TFTAYS: Tromp travel award for young scientists to participate in EMS2018: deadline 13 April 2018

Submissions are now invited for the following EMS Media Awards, each with a deadline of  22 May 2018:

• Outreach & Communication Award
• TV Weather Forecast Award
• Broadcast Meteorologist Award

Again, the Tromp Foundation will fund an award for biometeorology:

• EMS Tromp Award for an outstanding achievement in biometeorology: submission deadline 30 April 2018

Nominations for the

• EMS Young Scientist Award are welcome until 27 Apr 2018

In connection with the EMS Annual Meetings, an Outstanding Poster Award (OPA) is given each year. Some changes have been made to the procedures for 2018.

• To participate in the poster award competition, authors need to tick the relevant box during abstract submission: deadline 13 April 2018
• Authors have to be under 35 years of age on 1 September 2018.
• Authors have to be the first author AND presenting author AND contact author of the relevant abstract.
• Authors have to be at the EMS2018.
• Authors can participate with exactly 1 poster.

The nomination deadlines for the EMS Silver Medal and the EMS Technology Achievement Award have already expired. Selected awardees will be announced after the EMS Council has finalised the selection at its forthcoming session in April.
