Dear readers, we are delighted to announce that the next President of the EMS will be Prof Liz Bentley from the Royal Meteorological Society. Liz will take up the post on 8 September 2023, the last day of the EMS Annual Meerting in Bratislava. You can find an interview with Liz below.
In Bratislava, we will also honour outstanding scientists and contributions to the broader meteorological community: Sarah Jones, DWD, is this year's EMS Silver Medallist; she will be giving an award lecture on "Early Career Scientists and how they shape our world." One early career scientist who shaped the ECS activities of the EMS and beyond in recent years is Carola Detring, also from DWD, and she will receive the EMS Outstaning Contribution Award for her important initiatives. Further, the Technology Achievement Award will be presented to Yr for a sophisticated weather forecasting service. You will find details on all three award recipients in this newsletter.
With MicroStep-MIS, Slovakia, and Météorage, France, the EMS did welcome two new Associate Members who support the activities of the EMS and the vision to further develop a network of the entire weather, water, climate community in Europe. Find out more about these organisations below.
Last not least, we would like to draw your attention to extended deadlines for the EMS Tromp Award in biometeorology as well as for two EMS Media Awards on 29 May! Find details below.
