On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the meteorological station in Hvar, organised by the City Library of Hvar and the Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), an exhibition was set up and a lecture was held on 1 February 2018. The exhibited materials were selected and prepared by Marko Vučetić dipl. ing. and dr. sc. Višnjica Vučetić and were mostly from the archives of DHMZ, the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science and personal collections.

In addition to the many interesting things, the greatest enthusiasm was caused by the revelation that in 1884 the world famous climatologist Julius Hann published the Climate of Hvar (Klima von Lesina) in the Zeitschrift der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Meteorologie. This was the first real analysis of the climate of a Croatian region or city!

The exhibition and lecture were completely booked and not all visitors could enter the hall; a large number remained “in front of the door”. In October 2018 a meteorological gathering will be held  to mark the anniversary of this occasion.
