International Forum of Meteorological Societies holds its first Global Meeting
Representatives from meteorological societies from all five continents and of international societies related to meteorology like the International Society of Biometeorology (ISB), International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) or the International Assoication of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS) attended the Global Meeting One (GM1) of the International Forum of Meteorological Societies (IFMS), that convened 19–20 January 2010 in Atlanta, USA, on invitation of the American Meteorological Society.
The GM1 formally founded the IFMS by accepting Terms of Reference.
The members of the informal Steering Committee have been re-elected for a two year term. The chair is Qin Dahe, Chinense Meteorological Society.
The IFMS will function primarily as a forum to faciltate communication and exchange of knowledge, experience and information among the world's national and regional meteorological societies. The IFMS membership is open to all national and regional meteorological socieities, as well as related professional and scientific societies with a focus on meteorology.
The Global Meeting Two (GM2) will be held October 2011 in China, on invitation of the Chinese Meteorological Society.
