The international Award for meteorology and climatology Eduard Fontserè 2017 will be presented to Roberto Serrano-Notivoli and his co-authors during the XXIII Symposium of Meteorology Eduard Fontserè, on 24 and 26 November 2017 in Barcelona. [more]
The Slovak Meteorological Society held its General Assembly in September 2017 and elected a new committee; the new president is Paulina Volova of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI) in Bratislava. [more]

"Le train du climat" has been selected to receive the award for its very innovative and original concept to develop an exhibition on a train, as a catalyst for discussion and debate about climate change issues, between scientists and cultural mediators present on board and general public.

Carlos Castillejo Balsera is the winner of the AME Meteoreportaje 2016, the contest of the Spanish Meteorological Society, with his report with the title "Momentos". Roberto Porto Mata won the Meteovideo, the AME video competition, with the video "La Ley del cielo".
The Danish Meteorological Society has elected Sven-Erik Gryning as the society's new president. He takes over from Eigil Kaas who led the DaMS for five years. [more]
An international coalition of 33 meteorological and climate societies and institutions have released a Collective Global Climate Statement to coincide with Earth Day on 22nd April, which this year is focused on environmental and climate literacy. [more]

The Unione Meteorologica del Friuli Venezia Giulia (UMFVG) has elected a new board, with Laura Palmisano as the new president.
Laura Palmisano earned a Master Degree in Natural Sciences at the Università degli Studi di Trieste and has dedicated her career to the promotion and teaching of science. [more]
Prof Dr Werner Wehry sadly passed away on 4 December 2016 aged 77. He was one of the founders of the European Meteorological Society and also served as the second President of the Society during the years 2002 to 2005. [more]
The Spanish Meteorologgical Association has announced a new photo feature competition as well as a video competition.

The Members of the historical Italian Geophysical Association (AGI), founded in 1951, unanimously approved the adoption of a new name - Italian Association of Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (AISAM) - and a new statute during their General Assembly held on July 27th 2016 in Rome. [more]

On Friday, 04 March 2016, the public presentation of a certification scheme for Meteorologists and Meteorological Technicians in Italy tool place at the Università degli studi di Bologna. The Associazione Geofisica Italiana (AGI) has been involved from the start in the formulation and development of the scheme.
The Portuguese Association of Meteorology and Geophysics (APMG) has elected Olavo Rasquinho as its new President. He succeeds Luis Pessanha. Sílvia Antunes continues as General Secretary of the Society. [more]

At the EUMETSAT Satellite Conference held in Toulouse from 21 – 25 September 2015, Jeanette Onvlee (KNMI) and Johannes Schmetz (EUMETSAT) convened a session on ‘Advances in Utilisation of Satellite Data for Nowcasting and Limited Area Modelling’. This session was concluded with a panel discussion entitled ‘Use of Satellite Information in Nowcasting and Short-range Numerical Weather Prediction (SRNWP)’. [more]
The celebrations under the title “A total of 425 Years of Weather Celebration” were held in the frame of the International Conference on Alpine Meteorology in Innsbruck ICAM2015, Austria.
425 years of weather celebration: also the 150-year anniversary of the Austrian weather map and the 125-year anniversary of the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of the University Innsbruck were commemorated.
