Certification Scheme for Meteorologists in Italy
On Friday, 04 March 2016, the public presentation of a certification scheme for Meteorologists and Meteorological Technicians in Italy tool place at the Università degli studi di Bologna. The Associazione Geofisica Italiana (AGI) has been involved from the start in the formulation and development of the scheme.
The Associazione Geofisica Italiana (AGI) and the Italian WMO-Regional Training Center have been involved from the start in the formulation and development of a certification scheme for Meteorologists and Meteorological Technicians in Italy, which is BIP-M/MT compliant (WMO-1083); other actors and organisations have been consulted and involved as well. The expertise of AGI members staff and their potential role in providing continuing education opportunities was appreciated in the process that was lead by the global provider of auditing and certification services, DEKRA.
Certification will not be compulsory for the time being, but it is a needed and fundamental step forward for the recognition of competencies and expertise of staff working daily in national/regional services with high professionality.
