EMS Outreach & Communication Award 2017 for "Le train du climat & ses messagers"


"Le train du climat" has been selected to receive the award for its very innovative and original concept to develop an exhibition on a train, as a catalyst for discussion and debate about climate change issues, between scientists and cultural mediators present on board and general public.

Taking place on the eve of the Paris accord negotiations in 2015, the project has been very successful and has met its main goal, which was to advance climate literacy and to contribute to science-based policy making

EMS Young Scientist Award 2017 to Juha Aalto


The EMS Young Scientist Award 2017 is awarded to Juha Aalto from the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) for his publication: "New gridded daily climatology of Finland: Permutation-based uncertainty estimates and temporal trends in climate", J. EMS Journalist Award 2017 for Astrid Rommetveit


Astrid Rommetveit receives the EMS Jounrnalist Award for her very important work in helping to bridge the gap in understanding between experts and non-experts; she covers complex topics and presents them in an understandable and accessible way, without oversimplifying them. Rommetveit takes seriously one of the most important missions of journalists, which is to give the reader the full capacity to understand a complex topic.

Deadline extended for EMS Tromp Biometeorology Award: 1 June 2017


The EMS Tromp Award will be awarded to a scientist for an excellent scientific paper in the field of biometeorology, published between 1 January 2015 and 1 June 2017.

Anybody having published a scientific paper in the field of biometeorology meeting the criteria of the award and resident in Europe (WMO RAVI) is eligible to apply for the award.

Collective Global Climate Statement Released for Earth Day


An international coalition of 33 meteorological and climate societies and institutions have released a Collective Global Climate Statement to coincide with Earth Day on 22nd April, which this year is focused on environmental and climate literacy.

EMS Outstanding Contribution Award to Sylvain Joffre


The EMS Council at its recent Session selected Sylvain Joffre, chair of the EMS Committee on Meetings, as the recipient of the EMS Outstanding Contribution Award 2017. He is honoured for pursuing and advancing the growth of the Annual Meeting activities of the Society through continuous and exceptional dedication to international networking and connecting diverse communities.
