Award Descriptions
The EMS Silver Medal is presented annually to a person who has made distinguished contributions to the development of meteorology in Europe. The Laureate receives a medal that is presented during the EMS Annual Meeting. The Laureate is invited to give a “Silver Medal Lecture”.

The Young Scientist Award is presented annually to acknowledge excellence in young scientists. The award is in form of prize money and travel expenses to cover the attendance of the EMS Annual Meeting.
Young scientists under 35 years of age on the first of January of the respective year, working and/ or studying in a European country are eligible for an award. All countries with an EMS Member Society or included in the WMO RA VI region are considered as European. For an overview of EMS Member Societies please consult the EMS Member site.
In the evaluation of the nominations, normally the following criteria are applied:
Interest of thesis - Innovation content of thesis - Candidate profile - Country.

Young Scientist Travel Awards are awarded to support participation of outstanding students and young scientists at EMS-co-sponsored conferences. The award is given as travel expenses support.
