EMS Annual Meeting and ECAC 2004
The Fourth EMS Annual Meeting took place 26 – 30 September 2004 in Nice, France. It was organised together with the Fifth European Conference on Applied Climatology (ECAC), initiated by the European Climate Support Network (ECSN).
The Fourth EMS Annual Meeting was the first which inluded calling for contributions to the conference from the entire meteorology and related community and having an offset of scientific sessions running over an entire week.

The theme of the Opening Session was "Meteorology and its social impact in Europe".

The meeting featured a Round Table on the Future of Publications:
Publish or perish, this paradigm is of utmost importance for all scientists. With technological progress, not only the printing process itself has undergone major changes; there are also complete new avenues for the publication process. This Round Table discussed the crucial elements: technology, business and quality assurance.

The Third EMS Annual Meeting was held together with the Sixth European Conference on Applications of Meteorology (ECAM) in Rome 2003. A conference on the Strategic Planning of major players in European Meteorology and a special session on The Future of Satellites in Meteorology were part of the EMS Annual Meeting.
The Second EMS Annual Meeting was held together with the Fourth European Conference on Applied Climatology (ECAC) in Brussels 2002. The thematic focus was Climate Variability and the European Economy.
