ECMWF: Principal Climate Scientist

Violetter Blitz

Closing date: 09 January 2017
ECMWF, Shinfield Park, Reading, UK
The mission of C3S is to provide authoritative and consistent climate information to European users, which include scientists, expert consultants, planners and policy makers, the media and the general public. The climate information provided for this purpose is derived from observations, global and regional reanalyses, seasonal forecast data, climate model simulations, and other data needed to estimate or project sectoral impacts. A C3S Climate Data Store is being constructed to provide free and open access to climate data, processing tools and information products via the Internet.

PhD position: Understanding long term climate and atmospheric composition change over Antarctica

Violetter Blitz

Closing date: 06 January 2017
Lancaster University with co-supervision at the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK
In this project the successful candidate will work with ice core hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) data and other observations, and state-of-the-art global climate models to advance our understanding of changes in oxidising nature of the atmosphere. The analysis will quantify the contribution of natural and anthropogenically-forced change from Greenland and Antarctica ice cores over the last ~100-10000 years, determine the contribution of different drivers of composition change for a range of future scenarios, and define novel techniques to evaluate global models and direct their improvement.

5th WCRP-JSC/CAS Working Group on Numerical Experimentation (WGNE) Workshop

Gebirge Licht

The workshop is including a special theme on the Year of Tropics-Midlatitude Interactions and Teleconnections organized by the WWRP/WCRP/S2S/Teleconnection sub-project. The goal is to promote and encourage the participation of community in a coordinated framework, YTMIT, focused on understanding the role of tropical-midlatitude teleconnections on intra-seasonal time-scales as a source of predictability and model errors.
submission of abstracts: opening on 15 Dec 2016; ending on 28 Jan 2017
